David Kuhnsman is a business attorney providing legal services to entrepreneurs and their companies with over 30 years’ experience in the areas of corporate, transactional, government contracting, and administrative law.  David has an extensive background representing clients, many of which are government contractors, in the fields of information technology; business and technical consulting; research and development; legal, accounting, and financial services; staffing services; real estate holding companies; and retail and consumer services.  With his years of experience in corporate and limited liability company organization, David assists entrepreneurs in growing their businesses from start-up to sale, including advice on structure and governance, corporate compliance programs, and mergers and acquisitions.  David also has experience with the legal issues pertaining to SBA 8(a), HUBZone, Service Disabled Veteran and Women Owned Small Business programs.

Before joining Protorae Law, David was a member of Enterprise Business Law Group, LLC representing small businesses and their owners throughout the Washington, DC area.  David previously served as Deputy Assistant Inspector General of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Prior to the FDIC, he served as Deputy Counsel to the Inspector General of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), where David participated in audits and investigations nationwide relating to S&Ls, banks, securities firms, law firms, accounting firms, and computer services companies. He has extensive experience in information privacy (including FOIA) matters and managing in-house legal staff and outside counsel.

David also served as an attorney with the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, Office of General Counsel, which regulates the futures industry and trading advisors. In addition, he was also an associate attorney with Lipsen, Hamberger & Whitten, which served as Washington area counsel to numerous Fortune 500 companies, foreign multinationals, and national associations.

David is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he concentrated in corporate and business law and taxation. He is also a graduate of Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Political Science. David is admitted to practice law in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania, and is a member of the American Bar Association Business Law and Public Contract Law sections.
