The ideal candidate will have experience with software licensing, contract drafting and review, IP issues (in particular patent, trademark and copyright), and data privacy. The firm has a strong presence in the business and government contracts community and regularly handles sophisticated transactional and litigation matters. With many of its attorneys having previously worked in various AmLaw 200 firms, Protorae Law has a hard working and collegial environment. The ideal candidate will have a portable book of business (no minimum threshold), which should grow with the firm’s investment in marketing.

Associate Attorney

Candidates should be willing to assist partners and support clients in a variety of legal tasks, such as drafting contracts and litigation support. Candidates should also have strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated motivation. Active Virginia Bar membership is required.

Legal Assistant / Secretary

Protorae Law is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support its transactional practice team. Candidates should have in-depth experience supporting transactional attorneys across broad practice areas. Practice areas to be supported in this position include Corporate, Trusts and Estates, Real Estate, and Intellectual Property.

Ideal candidates should have strong technical skills in Microsoft Word (including redlining, styles, tables of contents, and tables of authorities), Adobe (bookmarks, editing, bates-numbering, redacting, preparing closing sets), Excel and PowerPoint to assist with the preparation of legal documents.  Strong proofreading skills, attention to detail, and efficiency are critical to success. Candidates should be proficient with timekeeping and document management software systems. Responsibilities will also include managing new client intake, electronic filings, organizing legal files (electronic and hard copy), transcriptions, and other legal correspondence requests. Administrative tasks will include coordinating meetings, travel arrangements, expense reports, and managing professional bar memberships. A public notary certification is preferred.

Candidates should be self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills, able to prioritize while multitasking, and should take satisfaction in helping attorneys and clients work through complicated legal and business challenges. The Firm offers a collegial and interactive work environment; however, professional demeanor is essential.
